KinderCare and How It Relates to EduConnect

What a kindergarten deployment shares with the main application, what it adds, and which of the two mobile apps to use.

Last updated Sat Sep 05

KinderCare is not a different product. It is the same application as EduConnect, deployed for kindergartens instead of schools, with different wording, different defaults and a different set of screens switched on.

What that means in practice

The staff dashboard is the same dashboard. Classes, students, attendance, staff, fees and reporting all work exactly as the EduConnect section of this guide describes. If you are looking for how to add a class, take a payment or close the day, read it there — none of it is different.

What changes:

  • Terminology — "Kindergarten" rather than "School" in places, set per institute. See Why Terminology Changes Between Institutes.
  • Which screens appear — a kindergarten typically has no timetable grid or exam results, so those parts of the drawer are simply not switched on.
  • Two mobile apps, which schools do not have.

The two mobile apps

This is the real difference, and the reason KinderCare has its own section at all.

AppWho uses itWhat it's for
KinderCare staff appTeachers and assistantsRecording what each child did during the day — activities, photos, learning outcomes — plus enrolment and the calendar
KinderCare parent appParentsSeeing those observations, themes, the calendar and payments, for one child or several

Schools use the web parent portal for the equivalent; kindergartens use the parent app.

The staff app is where day-to-day kindergarten practice actually happens — a photo and a note against a learning outcome, several times a day, per child. The web dashboard is for the office.
