Teachers: Mark Your Class's Attendance

The daily register — where the attendance column is, how to mark and unmark a student, and how it interacts with card scans.

Last updated Sat Sep 05

This is the one task you will do every morning.

Where it is

My Class → Students in the side drawer.

The attendance column on that roster only appears for teacher accounts. If you are looking at the same class as an admin, or through Students → Classes rather than My Class, the column is not there — that is why an administrator cannot see what you are describing.

Marking a student present

  1. Open My Class → Students.
  2. Find the student in the roster.
  3. Select the attendance control on their row. It marks them immediately — there is no separate save step, and no confirmation.

Work down the list. The control shows each student's current state, so a glance down the column tells you who is still unmarked.

Unmarking

Selecting the control again on an already-marked student asks Are you sure you want to unmark attendance? and, on confirming, removes the record. Use this for a genuine mistake, not for marking someone absent — see below.

Present, absent and unmarked

There are only two states stored: a student has an attendance record for today, or they do not.

  • Marked = present.
  • Unmarked = not recorded present. That covers absent, late-and-not-yet-arrived, and you-haven't-got-to-them-yet, and the reports cannot tell those apart.

So the register is only meaningful once you have been through the whole class. Finish the list.

Cards and scans

Where students carry RFID cards, scanning at the gate creates the same record you would create by hand — a student who has already scanned in will show as marked before you start. You are topping up the ones the gate missed, not duplicating it.

A student with no card number on their record can never be marked by scanning, only by you. If someone is permanently missing from the scans, their record probably has no RFID — see Add a Student.

If a student is missing from the roster

They are enrolled in a different class, or not enrolled at all. Adding them is an office task, not a teacher one — ask for them to be added to your class rather than creating a duplicate record.
