Tutorial: Enter Exam Results for a Class

Typing marks for one class and subject, marking absentees, and what happens when you need to change a mark that's already saved.

Last updated Sat Sep 05

You need: an exam that already exists, and access to the class.

Steps

  1. Open Exams and select the exam.
  2. Pick the class from the class list.
  3. Select Add Results.
  4. At the top, choose the subject and the teacher the marks are credited to.
  5. Type marks down the list of students. As you go, the counters at the top of the screen keep score: n of total entered, and n absent.
  6. For students who did not sit the paper, tick Absent rather than entering 0. A zero is a mark and drags averages down; absent is excluded from them.
  7. When everyone who sat is entered, use Mark remaining absent to tick the stragglers in one go — but read the entered/absent counts first and make sure the remainder really are absentees and not people you forgot.
  8. Select Save Results and confirm.

Changing a mark afterwards

Saved marks are not freely editable. Editing one raises a change request with an optional note, which someone with approval rights reviews under Exams → Result Changes. This is deliberate — it leaves a trail on marks that have already been seen.

If you get The mark has moved while editing, someone else changed that mark after you opened the screen. Reload and look at the current value before re-submitting; your change was not applied.
